part 3 A.
After reading these excerpts, I learned that life was very tough back then. Men were always getting hurt or even killed.Lots of stonecutters die from silica. Usually, people would start work at a very young age. Women would usually work and use the "spinners" which were huge wheels that would spin spool and make clothing.

There was no vacations even on holidays. If men or women were black they most likely would get accepted to jobs. People would pass notes to each trough secret ways such as hiding them in the bathroom because if they got caught sending notes to each other, they would have instantly got fired.Mostly everyone such as; Anna Novak, Jim Cole, and Elizabeth Miller say that the pay was bad and the work was tough.

Clyde Smith says that he began singing in the streets to earn extra money for food. Women like Elizabeth Miller worked hard even whent their husbands werent home. She said that one time she brought in a 200 lb hog from the yard when it was hanging there from after her husband had caught it. She cut it up and stored it in the freezer so it could be cooked as a meal when they needed it.

" Living alone was somtimes difficult ya know cuz ya just sometimes need someone to tell stuff to." - Mrs. C. W. Higgins. She lived in alabama on a grove where she grew and picked pecans. She had a decent life and liked to enjoy it as much as she could
